Our research is organised into several distinct research programmes, each of which contains a number of particular projects. These programmes are designed around some of the major policy challenges of the 21st century and reflect concentrations of research strength within Cambridge. Our initial research programmes lie in the following areas:

Place and public policy

Including a multi-institution research project funded by ESRC - ‘Between two unions’.

Technology and innovation

Including a new programme 'The Digital State' funded by the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Science and the future of democracy

Including new a partnership with the Centre for Science and Policy and Churchill College, exploring the role of expertise in policy-making today, and innovative ways of promoting an understanding of policy questions among scientists.

Well-being, progress and public policy

This programme will be headed by Professor Diane Coyle when she begins her post as Bennett Professor in March 2018.
